Seth Okai (C/R), Nov 25, GNA - The chiefs and people of Seth Okai, a village near Agona Nsaba, have appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help construct classrooms, especially a Junior High School (JHS) structure in the area.
Nana Okai II, Chief of the town, made the appeal on behalf of the people after conducting the Ghana News Agency (GNA) round to inspect the existing school structures.
He said currently students in JHS “2” and Primary “6” are studying under a hut due to lack of adequate classrooms. Those in JHS “1” are studying on the veranda of the existing classroom for Kindergarten.
The chief said the people at Seth Okai are predominantly small scale farmers and therefore had not enough money to put up school building themselves.
Nana Okai said school children in the village had suffered by walking long distances to Agona Nsaba and other areas to attend school.
He said several appeals had been made to the Assembly for the construction of the classrooms but no concrete response had come.
Nana Okai commended the National Democratic Congress government for putting up the four classrooms in 1995, but expressed regret that the same government had refused to assist them to construct additional classrooms.
Mr Kwesi Fosu, Assemblyman for the area, confirmed that letters had been written to the Assembly for assistance to build more classrooms.
He appealed to the Minister of Education and other Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs) to come to the aid of the town.
